Provisional Patent — Fast, Customized, Filed for You
Purchase DetailsThis inventor-guided provisional patent service combines your own detailed description with a customized drafting framework I’ve built specifically for early-stage inventions. You describe your invention in your own words, and the system transforms it into a fully structured provisional patent application — including an abstract, background, summary, figures section, detailed description, and claims — while I personally handle the USPTO filing. It’s an efficient, cost-effective way to secure an early filing date and achieve patent-pending status without the delays of traditional drafting.
After purchase, you’ll receive a one-time use document ID. Use that document ID on this page to submit your invention description. Your completed provisional application and Engagement Letter will be emailed to the address used at checkout, typically within about 30 minutes. When you're ready to file, I’ll submit the application to the USPTO for you. At that time, we will also confirm your small-entity or micro-entity filing status, and the required USPTO filing fee will be invoiced separately prior to submission.

Provisional Patent & Service FAQs
A provisional patent application is a U.S. filing that allows you to establish an official filing date for your invention with fewer formal requirements than a full non-provisional application. It does not itself become a granted patent, but it can serve as the priority foundation for a later non-provisional filing. Once filed, your invention is considered “patent pending.”
Provisional applications are not examined for patentability. Their primary value lies in documenting your invention at a specific point in time and securing that date while you refine prototypes, test the market, or develop additional variations before filing a full utility application.
A provisional application is often faster and less expensive than a full non-provisional filing. It is especially useful when you:
- Want early patent-pending status before launching publicly or fundraising.
- Expect to refine your invention over the next several months.
- Prefer an affordable, lower-commitment path while evaluating next steps.
This service keeps costs down while still providing a customized, structured provisional ready for USPTO filing.
After submitting your document ID and invention description:
- Your invention description is processed into a structured provisional application using the custom drafting framework.
- You receive your Word DOCX application and completed Engagement Letter via email.
- You refine the draft by editing text and adding any figures you want included.
- When you’re ready, we’ll determine your USPTO filing status and fee (small or micro entity), send a separate invoice for the filing fee, and then I’ll handle the USPTO filing for you.
This workflow gives you speed, customization, and control throughout the process.
A provisional application lasts for 12 months. To maintain your filing date, you must file a non-provisional utility application within that window. Many inventors use the year to refine prototypes, evaluate market feedback, and determine which embodiments to pursue in the full filing.
No — this service is optimized for speed and affordability. You provide the invention description, the system structures it into a provisional draft, and I file it for you. Full-service drafting, including detailed interviews, claim development, and custom drawings, is available separately for inventors needing a deeper and more strategic engagement.
